About Us

Bilin Tree House

Bilin Tree House is in a residential area just 5 mins away from the World Heritage City of Galle Fort. The centuries old three-bedroom Dutch Villa is restored to it past glory and magnificence. A new wing consisting of four suites allow the guests to experience modern luxuries. The serene atmosphere enhanced by an evergreen garden, home to exotic birds, squirrels and a visiting troop of endemic purple faced langurs make residents feel living with nature.

The Folklore

The story goes back to the days of Dutch Ceylon. It could be fiction or non-fiction, but it is interesting. While there are many versions to story evolving around the private lives of the first residents, which are either exaggerated or spiced up, we limited ourselves to coining of the symbolic name.

The folklore evolves around a Captain of a Dutch Returning Ship, and his wife, from Batavia. As most Returning Ships called at Port of Galle on their inbound and outbound journeys between Batavia & Netherlands, they decided to make Galle their place of residence.
